Modified Approach to Realise Accurate and Simple Cold Reference for Radiometer Calibration
نویسندگان
چکیده
Abstract A modified approach to realise a cold reference for radiometer calibration is presented. A common problem with the cold references used in radiometer calibration is the temperature distribution of the connection cable between the load and the receiver. The introduced approach utilises the thermodynamical fact that the temperature distribution between two connected points is linear, when the connection is isolated from the surrounding environment. The level of liquid nitrogen is forced to stay at a certain level enabling high stability over a long period of measurement time. In this paper a principle for doing this is presented and a test setup for testing the linearity is introduced. When the linearity of the temperature distribution fulfils the given requirement the accuracy of the cold reference meets an adequate value. The essential benefit of the approach is the high stability and good accuracy compared to the complexity of the configuration.

Verification of L-band Fully Polarimetric Noise Injection Radiometer Measurement Capability
Abstract A functional test to verify the proper and accurate measurement capability of an L-band fully polarimetric noise injection radiometer is presented. The test is designed specifically for the MDPP-2 (MIRAS Demonstrator Pilot Project 2) NIR (Noise Injection Radiometer), which has two functions: (1) to calibrate the MIRAS (Microwave Imaging Radiometer using Aperture Synthesis) instrument b...
متن کاملDetection of calibration drifts in spaceborne microwave radiometers using a vicarious cold reference
The coldest possible brightness temperatures observed by a downward-looking microwave radiometer from space are often produced by calm oceans under cloud-free skies and very low humidity. This set of conditions tends to occur with sufficient regularity that an orbiting radiometer will accumulate a useful number of observations within a period of a few days to weeks. Histograms of the radiometer...
متن کاملOptimal Calibration of Radiometers Using System Identification Techniques
Microwave radiometers are valuable for obtaining geophysical information such as the ocean surface salinity, stratiform precipitation, water vapor, temperature, soil moisture, vegetation cover, and others [1]. These environmental monitoring applications of passive microwave remote sensing systems require precision measurements of brightness temperatures over a range of more than 300K with absol...
متن کامل7.4 European Uv Broad Band Filter Radiometer Reference Scale
The pertinent lack of a standard calibration procedure for UV filter radiometers introduces unknown and potentially large uncertainties in their measurement products. Although most UV calibration facilities take into account many instrument properties that affect the measurement quality of UV filter radiometers, some instrument characteristics that are difficult to determine present substantial...
متن کاملTotal Power Radiometer for Medical Sensor Applications Using Matched and Mismatched Noise Sources
This paper presents a simple total power radiometer to noninvasively measure the temperature of the human body. The proposed 3-GHz radiometer consists of an antenna collecting the noise power generated by a target, a low-noise and high-gain receiver amplifying the noise power, and a detector converting the noise power to voltage. A single-pole-triple-throw (SP3T) switch is placed between the an...
